2026 Garden Tour of Birtle and Area Gardens
also featuring a display of work by artists and artisans
Birtle is well known for its gardens and gardeners and we are excited to invite you to our self guided tour of several award winning Birtle and Area gardens where the work of several artists will be on display. Gardens include the magnificent Val’s Garden with five acres of themed gardens. More information about gardens and artists is below the poster.
Registration is at the Birtle Centre for the Arts (671 Main Street – look for the coral door) where the tour begins. You will receive a detailed map of garden locations, information about the gardens, and the available eateries. You will want to take some time to browse through the gift shop which showcases the original work of area artisans. Registration fee is $10 per person. The tour is a Rain or Shine event.
ABOUT THE GARDENS: These unique landscapes, including the spectacular Val’s Garden, are being shown a little earlier than past years and with the weather, plants are a little later so you may see plants at a slightly different stage than in previous years. You can expect to see all sizes of gardens from large rural landscapes to gardens in town. Many theme gardens include a herb garden, several potager veggie gardens both in ground and with raised beds, white gardens, perennial borders, a garden inspired by the designs of Piet Oudolf, a sunken rose gardens, a pond, knot garden, a labyrinth, a Japanese garden, a Mediterranean garden with a grape arbour, a walk along an allee, a hosta and hydrangea walk, and several types of pathways. You will see over 30 varieties of hardy trees with some newer introductions for our climate, and creative arrangements of annuals, perennials and shrubs. Landscapes feature everything from hidden private yards to open expanses with beautiful vistas.
THE ARTISTS:
All artists are not listed as some will be added afer posting. Work by these confirmed artists will be displayed in the gardens:
Mary Lowe, Elaine Rawlings, Kerri Wilson, the late Jack Lewis-Smith, Josh Butcher, and Doug Holroyd.
We invite you to join us and thank your for supporting Birtle Centre for the Arts.
